memorial garden

•

This ongoing project began in 2019 as a memorial to my father after his untimely passing. It was the site of the above ground pool my parent’s had, something my father labored many years over trying to create a space for the whole family. It had been empty for a couple summers when my dad had passed away; the upkeep becoming too much for him after the health issues had slowed him down. So came the inspiration for this memorial garden for him on this place that we spent so many summers. This project has been a great teacher for me, learning so many lessons about gardening and life; through the blood, sweat, & tears I’m connecting deeper into myself and my ancestors.

studio garden

•

Started in 2020 this pocket prairie is a perfect addition to our studio space. It’s wild mix of native plants, that throughout the summer is steady buzz of pollinator activity. The gold finches have enjoyed the coreopsis seed heads, the monarchs have enjoyed the milkweed, and long list of others. we’ve kept it low maintenance allowing the plants to find their own balance. It’s all a continual progression. Through listening to the space and seeking to find the shared harmony with the land and plants we have arrived where we are. We continue to evolve shaping and reshaping each other. Of note, all the materials for the stone walkway were repurposed refuse for this project. The stone coming from a stranger’s disassembled fireplace collected with a friend. The plants were the hodgepodge collection of things we hand on hand. There’s a sacredness to this frugality, nothing is wasted, all is worthy and usable. Working with what you. Have is to trust, to listen, to be guided rather than leading head strong through it. In this way, the labor is easy and the burden is light. In this way, you find yourself in the Tao.
