Title: The Pathos Of Things, 2019
Medium: latex, acrylic, spray paint, oil pastel, found objects, paper, super glue, etc. on mounted partially burned canvases
Dimensions: 30” x 40”
Artist Statement:
The work is the culmination of a season of regular walks each day on the same path through downtown Springdale collecting the refuse found along the way. Working as a modern archeologist I have assembled a vision of the American today; as an artist it is an attempt to unearth a beauty within the carelessly discarded objects that make up the public spaces of American life. In the end, I found myself surrounded by the lifeless polymers—molded into the graven image of convenience, our attempt to escape the transience of life only to be overtaken in its accumulation.
