Isaiah ch. 17-23
This week we are continuing our Middle Eastern tour of nations, this time looking at many nations though Egypt and Jerusalem will take a central focus. As always we will see judgment of autonomous figures, but also we will see themes of hope for Jerusalem and surprisingly Egypt also. For Isaiah there is always the two-stage vision of inescapable punishment and buoyant assurance.
In your studies, continue to look beyond simply the judgment to the causes which the punishment is rooted in. It is a mistake to think we are any different than these nations. We must try to find ourselves reflected in these different people. Things have not changed in the last 2,500 years of man’s history. We still lose faith, we still attempt to find confidence in our own actions, we still easily forget the promises of God, the long past of His redemptive work through history.
Matt Chandler has recently preached a sermon on this connection of the Bible to our life. Within this sermon he explains the vital link between understanding the story of the Bible and the ‘application’ of those principles. I highly recommend this sermon, as well as the rest of the series found {here}.

Father, i pray, help me to remember the love of Christ that dwells in me every day. Help me to look to you first in all that i do and all that i think. Forgive me my short comings and let me bask in the light of forgiveness that cleanses and renews me to you.
so that i may do your will each day. I humbly pray. Your servant. Ahmen
