diy yogurt

Yesterday, the family was enjoying an afternoon snack of yogurt. After reading On What to Eat by Michael Pollan, Amber has been a lot more conscious of what kinds of stuff we are buying & eating. She started reading the list of ingredients for the yogurt, after 20 lines of text stumbling over 10 letter long ingredients she realized how processed what we thought was a healthy was.
So how hard is it to make your own yogurt, is the question that she raised. I assumed it would be rather difficult, requiring special ingredients, but after a quick google search, I realized how easy it is. Basically it is heating up (185°, to kill the bacteria) some milk mixed with a few tbsps of yogurt (you need to add the yogurt cultures, just like adding yeast to bread) & keeping it warm (110°) for like 7 hours, then mixing it up really well and putting it in the frig over night.
Definitely something I want to try really soon.
