domesticated imagination

{I was looking through my notebook for something to write about, here are some notes from a seminar about Tim Keel‘s recent book Intuitive Leadership at the Reclaiming Paul conference back a few months ago.}
partnership & confidence
people respond to the expectations of the leader
leaders create the culture
what are we creating?
belief & responsibility in God
in postmodern context – hospitality is important
can’t be fearful
the crisis of imagination (the lack thereof) –> seeing things not yet there, for the senses
John 15 –> fruit is a by-product of abiding in Christ
a way of life…in common
domesticated imagination {as a result of:}
1. modern epistemology
synthetic absolutes, certainity,
reductionism –> models & techniques of reproduction
2. american pragmatism/minstry titalation
the “bag of tricks”
3. isolation – protestantism
–>disagreement means breaking fellowship
{three circles which all overlap}
context (that which we live in)
theology (who is God & God’s people)
system & structures (how is the church structured)
the first two ideas have been thought and written about a lot in the emergent ‘conversation’, Tim Keel is wanting us to start {re}imagining how to structure the whole thing.
The best idea that I heard from him and what really is his central thesis for church leaders:
creating spaces (spacial & temporal) from which God may work–leaders are just there to open up opportunities for the Holy Spirit to work.
{A very illuminating conversation, which these notes do little justic to. If haven’t read it already his book is highly recommended reading for anyone involved in church leadership–which should be everyone since we are all called to the Holy Priesthood through Jesus Christ.}
