wordpress 2.5
Saturday, 5 April 2008
I just updated my wife’s website to wordpress 2.5 from 2.3. I have been using wordpress to her site for a couple of months now. Before that I was using dreamweaver to control the website I had created on my own. I’m not sure why I didn’t just go to wordpress from the beginning–I think it was just simply a lack of research on my part, of what’s out there.
The ability to do so much of the admin tasks from within a browser is nice, especially for me right now as I don’t have a single computer which I solely use. The only functions which I must do outside of the browser are ftp uploads–which even this can be done through plugins within wordpress although the interface is rather limited.
I guess a lot of the work I have skipped out on so far–editing and creating themes–but it is nice to be able to get something going without having to create everything when you just don’t have the time.
Yesterday I was able to update wordpress from 2.3 to 2.5 in about an hour. This includes the time took to download the complete site, for backup purposes, delete the server contents, upload the new version, and apply settings and correct a few small problems. I have never had such good luck prior to wordpress.
The more I work with wordpress the more I dislike my blogger interface. While I was waiting for things to download/upload on this update I began the task of setting up a ubuntu local server for the primary purpose of hosting a wordpress blog for myself. It will probably take a while, as it is not a high priority currently, but I am working on it.
