who am I?

Lately I have been reading through an interesting book by a Russian philosopher, Vysheslavtsev. The book is called The Eternal in Russian Philosophy, and true to form it is focused on philosophy of God and man’s relation to. What is most interesting is the path that he takes. At moments he takes on a mystical tone and style in which to describe how he believes things to be.
For a few chapters in the middle of the book he deals with how man and God are in relation to each other. What I found the most interesting was the way he described man. Man is made in the image of God. To be made in the image of God would mean to hold some essence in common. What he describes that essential quality to be the infinite. There is infinity in the big and small. In the same way that God is infinite, we are infinite in our being. He describes how each of us really don’t know ourselves, in the same way that we don’t really know God. He recalls the famous command of Socrates, “know thyself” as the ultimate command for us. It is in this inner searching through our own abyss we will find our need for God.
Now I’m not really sure exactly all he wants to say about these ideas. Obviously no one would be able to completely explain something like this, but it definitely leaves me wondering about it. I don’t know how right he is, but its an interesting idea to think about.
