bible translations

i’m in the middle of reading a book that jake has pushed onto me called a new kind of christian. it’s been really interesting so far. a question that came to mind in reading it that really hasn’t been talked about yet(maybe later) is how our translation of the bible affects how we read the bible, see god, and so on. i mean if, and it seems to be true, we really are a product of our age then the way we would write/translate the bible would be affected also. so this makes me lost how am i supposed to read the bible now, what version should i be picking. this has kind of been on my mind lately as i’ve stumbled across a website jesus-is-lord.com,that has some crazy stuff on it in general, which has a lot of literature exploring(well not exploring to them as they see it as truth) the idea that only the KJV is the truth and all latter versions are heresy. i guess i’ve been put into a place of severe doubt about the bible from a lot of different sides lately besides these. i dont know what to think, and even if the bible it’s self is true then how do i know that the version i have is real. i remember reading a book a while back that made an argument stating that the bible was only a history created by a people meant only for explotation. sometimes i just really wonderful about the bible. i can’t find myself believing in a purely materialistic worldview but christianity and religion in general can seem so flawed sometimes.
